The release of the Windows 7 operating system and its built in ability to fully support multi-touch displays on touch screen laptops has made quite a splash in the world of mobile computing technology. While it appears that many manufacturers of laptops with touch sensitive displays are still slow at taking full advantage of this powerful aspect of the new operating system, there has been a new line of Toshiba touch screen laptops that was waiting to launch and make the most of what Windows 7 has to offer the world of touch recognition computing.

The new Toshiba laptops come in two flavors: the Toshiba Satellite M505 Touch and the Toshiba Satellite U505 Touch. Several software enhancements offered by Toshiba include the Bulletin Board which is almost like an app for the computer that allows the user to organize calendar events and activities, and a program known as ReelTime which offers the user a visual history of the files and documents including media files like pictures and video.

But the improvements extend beyond the software component. To take full advantage of the greater run time efficiency of Windows 7, these Toshiba touch screen laptops are built to boot faster and resume from sleep mode quicker. It also comes with a background program management system to minimize the number of programs running in the background which use up processing power, temporary memory, and most importantly for some people excess background programs unnecessarily suck battery life.

Despite being a tiny laptop, all the touch screen laptops do come with its compromises. For the more intuitive interface you often pay a higher price for lesser processing power and other specifications. A traditional laptop priced around $950 to $1100 will offer a significantly more powerful processor than the Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 that these come with. The approximate $1,000 range is what the suggested retail for these Toshiba laptops are baring upgrades which of course will raise the cost.

The difference between the two is mostly in the cosmetics. The M505 offers a Sonic Black Fusion Finish while the U505 comes in a Luxe Brown textured finish. Since the specs are equal it is personal preference which of the two you choose. These laptops also offer the same convertible design that features the rotating screen to go from traditional laptop mode to tablet mode.
